Milena García

Milena Garcia is multidisciplanary artist who studies violence exercised in spaces of power (family, state-mass media) and its effects the body.  García uses video and painting to confront and resignify elements that shape identities in a context of post-revolution  and authoritarianism.

Milena Garcia was born in Nicaragua in the years that preceeded the fall of the Somoza dictatorship. Her childhood thus comprised the period of the new revolutionary project marked by hope and anxiety of the new political leadership which had a deep impact in the creation of culture for the nation.  She trained and worked as a television reporter and news anchor. As a Fullbright scholar she completed her MFA in Film at the San Francisco  Art Institute. She lives and works in Central America.
